PEDIATRIC PALLIATIVE CARE IS A BRIDGE FOR THE GAPS IN MEDICAL CARE WHEN FACING A MEDICALLY-COMPLEX DIAGNOSIS, &:
Emily was born with a rare chromosome abnormality, so rare that doctors were not able to educate Emily's family in detail on her prognosis. She surpassed medical expectations, but as she grew her body systems began to fail, causing unmanageable discomfort and declining abilities, even out of control symptoms. Working in their home to meet Emily's functional and comfort needs,
Becky (her mom & founder of Brades' Place) began to
understand the purpose, genuineness, uniqueness, effectiveness,
& the necessity of in-home palliative care.
Community-based pediatric palliative care provides an extra layer of support outside of hospitals for children living with serious and life-altering illness or injury and their families.
Palliative care addresses the question, "How can today be the best day possible?" Palliative care may include a bed with extra features; pain management; sibling, parent, & extended family events; speech therapy to improve swallowing, hydrotherapy to relax muscles and improve pain; a visit with a spiritual mentor; family communication training; & more!
Your team of health professionals is carefully chosen for your family based on your goals, needs, and circumstances. Starting as early as at the time of diagnosis your team may include physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, emotional & spiritual wellness counselors, therapy services, pain management, & others; with the goal each day of working to increase your comfort, joy, & function.
